Thanks to an initiative by the Grassroots Wirksworth Recycling & Waste Group, two re-charging points for electric cars will be installed at the Co-op this week, on Wednesday, 16th August. A trial project, Central England Co-operative will be installing two number 7.5KW electric vehicle charging points into the car park to benefit local members whose properties cannot accommodate charging facilities (i.e. narrow streets / no driveways etc).

This will be the only public charging access points for several miles and the closest alternate public chargers are located in Belper, Darley Dale and Stoke on Trent. The chargers will be installed on Wednesday 16th August. This charging facility will be available 24/7.

The operation will be managed by a third party provider “Charge your car” (CYC) network. The installation will be advertised on fully interactive online maps, i.e. https://www.zap-map.com/live/ and the national charge point register http://www.national-charge-point-registry.uk/

Customers will need to pre-register and purchase a payment card or download a smartphone app before they are able to use. Details of how to set up payment cards or apps can be found at https://www.zap-map.com/…/public-c…/charge-your-car-network/

We know a number of people in Wirksworth who are considering buying electric cars, but live where they can’t install charging facilities, so this will make it much easier for such people to go ahead. Congratulations to Hilary Hebron and the Recycling & Waste Group!
